Two tiny kids on one big hill! We were at the soccer fields early for pictures today, so naturally my kids filled the time before their games running dangerously fast down a steep hill. #wildandfreechildren#kidsontherun
A little bit of sunshine on a dull day 💛
Willow is definitely growing wild at the minute, wanting to ditch the pushchair, grab every flower she sees, every leaf on the floor, and now acorns are making an appearance too. She's also growing wild by letting out the most incredible screams if she doesn't immediately get her way 😩totally dramatic, kind of exasperating, kind of amusing (but not in public).
Growing Wild tees are still in stock, in what ways do your littles grow wild (or send you wild!)?
It's time to pack up and wave goodbye to Portland as the end of our USA road trip has arrived. What a two weeks it has been. From stunning Yellowstone to fires in Montana and Oregon, it's been an amazing trip. We didn't get to do everything we wanted to, those fires having alot to do with it, but we still packed in loads. Yesterday we explored Downtown Portland and by far our favourite part was the Alphabet District. Cool little shops, cafes and buildings right out of Grimm. If we return, which I'm sure we will, that's where I want to start. Time to do the finally packing and get ourselves to the airport. Thanks North West America!
We're still talking about our trip to @oregonzoo yesterday. So impressed by it. I think our favourite part was the forest walk in the Great North West section. It was both amazing and stunning. And we got to see some animals not normally shown in European zoos too. I'll have a #review coming soon after we get back. But can highly recommend it!
We had an amazing time at Oregon Zoo which is located in Washington Park. We were so impressed by this zoo and can highly recommend it if you are in or visiting Portland. This was BattleKid chasing the seals as they playfully swam by the viewing window. A great day out and today was all about the boy. We were glad we had this visit pencilled in after the 3000 miles and 60+ hours we've spent in the car over the last 12 days. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the boy. Thanks @oregonzoo! #travelmadfam

When I took him bumboarding a few months ago. He was a little scared at first as he was new to it but quickly got into it and wanted to stay longer. A fun way to get the kids to explore their adventurous side and let loose😎. They host kiddies parties and also offer ski and snowboarding lessons.
This little dude has been awesome during this trip. With 2500 miles and over 50 hours in the car (so far), he has completely surprised us at how well he has travelled and all without his tablet/LeapFrog in sight! Don't get me wrong, we've had the odd usual tantrum from time to time, but overall he's been amazing. We're currently in a lovely TownePlace Suites by @marriotthotels in Richland before we move on to our final destination of Portland tomorrow. We've driven through 350 miles of smoke haze today which has been shocking. Despite temperatures above 30°C we haven't seen the sky properly since we left Yellowstone, where this picture was taken. But it hasn't phased BattleKid nor stopped us discussing our return to the USA! This trip has given us even more of a travel bug and no doubt we'll be planning next year's trip somewhere as soon as we're home!
They don't call this part of America the Big Sky Country for nothing. This was the sky as we left the Wild West Cookout on our last night in Yellowstone. No filters, no nothing, just pure nature. Such a beautiful part of the world and we feel very privileged to have been able to visit. Today we'll be mostly chilling out in Missoula and keeping out of the sun. Temperatures are higher here than they are in Portugal at the moment! We'll then be driving to Richland for our overnight stop before hitting Portland on Tuesday. Can't believe we've been in the USA 8 days already! A week today and it'll be all over and we'll be back in Portugal. Amazing trip so far. Lots of memories made to look back on.
Grotta della neve (o dei ladri)
The grotta della neve (snow cave) in the past was used as a snow well.
In winter the snow was put inside the cave, and during summertime The snow was dug up again, and sold. That trade went on until The first fridges showed up in Sicily (around The '50s). The trade was then suddenly abandoned.
We stopped at a place called the Fishing Bridge on Yellowstone River on Day 2 of our time in Yellowstone. And what do little boys do best at rivers? Why, throw stones into them! . . .
Unfortunately, due to fire restrictions we aren't going to get to explore Lolo National Forest, the reason for us stopping here in Lolo. It's a pity but can't be helped. So instead we're going to a Bison Range today, in the hope to see more animals, and tomorrow may just be a rest day before we start making our way further west towards Portland. We're hoping Portland will be the icing on the cake for this trip! Hope you're all having a great Saturday.
Yellowstone is done. There are no words to describe how stunning a place it is. We tried in the car to describe it and failed. We actually just fell quiet on our last leg out of the park. We started the day down by Old Faithful to grab some souvenirs. Then we drove to Roosevelt Lodge for a picnic. From there we took in the Lamar Valley and saw the real herds of bison we had been expecting. Then, we had an amazing experience at the Wild West Cookout before starting the 2 hour trek back to our AirBnB. And along the way we saw lots of elk. And then this last stunning sight along the River Drive on the approach to West Yellowstone. Trip of a lifetime!
Seeing the world through a child's eyes is one of biggest gifts Austin has given me ❤️ The list of things I have learnt purely by watching my son are endless. Not to be so uptight is definitely one 😂 Not to be so structured and to worry less about things being tidy (although that's a work in progress as I still find it hard to concentrate when things are messy around me 😬😬). He has shown me how to forgive, love and have faith that everything will be okay. I teach Austin everyday but he has been teaching me since he was conceived ❤️What have you learnt from your child/children? #followme#toddlerfun#littleexplorer#vegan
The stunning Lower Falls of Yellowstone River. They form part of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Definitely worth the walk down on steep slopes with no handrail and the slog of a hike back up. This is one sight BattleKid will have to come see for himself in the future as he was asleep. BattleDad and I tag-teamed each other so we could both see it. It took me 12 minutes and 4 stops to get back to the top. BattleDad did it in 8 mins with no stops! Absolutely stunning in the early morning light and a bucket list wish of mine ticked off. Everyone should see this once in their life.
We were up early this morning to beat the crowds and get to the waterfalls early (pictures to follow). It was a good plan. This little dude fell asleep but we didn't mind as the hike back up from the Lower Falls Viewpoint would have been too much for him. So BattleDad and I tag-teamed going down to see them. After leaving the falls we headed north and stopped for tea and cake at the Roosevelt Lodge General Stores. It's where we are headed tomorrow afternoon for our Cookout which we're looking forward to. We've also seen more bison and a coyote. Oh, and a mama moose and her calf in our neighbours garden as we were leaving this morning! Tomorrow is our last day in Yellowstone before we head to Lolo and Missoula on Friday. Amazing few days. #travelmadfam
Spotting a herd of bison, as you do! Awesome day again. More geysers, bison, stunning landscapes, waterfalls and much more. We didn't think yesterday could be topped but we've had another incredible day. South Yellowstone almost done. A waterfall to photograph tomorrow and then we can explore the northern half of Yellowstone. The "wow" and "look at that" comments have continued today! #travelmadfam
Oh that thing over BattleKid's head? It's just Old Faithful towards the end of its eruption, which we timed well. Yellowstone is amazing with a capital A. Every turn we take we are awe inspired. All BattleKid can hear from us is "oh wow", "oh my god" and "look at that". We've only covered 30 miles in the park today but we saw geysers, hot springs that sound like boiling kettles, elk and bison on the side of the road and stunning landscapes. It's everything we hoped for and more! 3 more days here before we move on. I wonder if today can be topped?

After 10 hours on a plane and 2.5 in a car, we've finally stopped for the night. I'm knackered, BattleKid is exhausted and I don't even know how BattleDad is still going. But we arrived to the sight of Mount St. Helens from the sky, and our first glimpsed of Mount Hood from the road. We'll be back to see her properly in just over a week but for now it's time to try beat jetlag before another 600 miles on the road tomorrow. Wish us luck!
