Here's your basic, basic introduction to calories & macros. This goes over the big rocks of what you need to know. •
💥A CALORIE is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius. A kilocalorie, or Calorie, is the equivalent of 1,000 calories, and is the unit used to discuss the nutritional value of food. •
☄️MACRONUTRIENTS, or macros, are nutrients that your body requires in large amounts. There are three primary macros, though technically alcohol is the fourth. •
💪PROTEIN is important for muscle building, plus other processes such as aiding in DNA repair, catalyzing biomechanical reactions, and more. They can be found in meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, and also plant sources such as tofu and lentils. 1 gram of protein has 4 Calories. •
🍞CARBOHYDRATES are the body's primary energy source, and the more physically active you are, the more carbs you may benefit from. We can live without carbs, but many will find that life is more fun with some carbs in their diet. Potatoes, grains, fruits, and vegetables are sources of carbs. 1 gram of carbohydrate has 4 Calories. •

So if you track your macros, then you're automatically tracking your Calories. •

Apparently my last transformation pic wasn't clear enough so I retook a photo today wearing the same tights I wore on the left (about half a year ago) and tried to pose similarly. Look at those thigh gains!! Although there's nothing wrong with my body in the left photo, I feel fitter, stronger, and happier now in the right photo. 
Also, I've increased my calorie intake by an additional 1,000 calories a day and I'm seeing great results! I don't think I quite grasped how important it is to keep feeding your body with the right foods to gain healthy weight (but now I know 😊) . Consistency is key though 👌 I'll keep this up for another few months and see the difference then 😊 👏👏👏 #followmyprogress 👉 @lilayy.x

The concept of 'starvation mode' perpetuates the idea that a low calorie intake will lead to a cessation of weight loss, as well as a preferential storage of fat by the body.

The starvation experiment conducted by Keys et al (1950), although clearly unethical, gives no credit to the claims of starvation mode. The men in this study experienced drastic weight loss as well as other side effects of such caloric restriction.

Despite the acknowledgement that a large percentage of people overestimate caloric expenditure and underestimate caloric intake (causing them to not be in a caloric deficit,) it's important to realize the body's attempt at maintaining homeostasis during periods of caloric restriction through mechanisms such as reduced NEAT activity.

Bottom line, barring a medical condition (which would be a rarity) if there isn't a trend of weight loss over a period of time, your caloric expenditure is less (or equal to) your intake.

Hi guys, here’s a breakdown of some of my meal ideas! 😊 I like to eat multiple small meals a day so that way I can pretty much eat every 3 hours 💜 Nothing wrong with eating a few big meals - but this is my preferred style during the week because I’m on Team Always Hungry 🍽 Swipe or read below for more info: 
Turkey Salad Jar Layers bottom to top: 
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1 cup cherry tomatoes, 1 cup sautéed cabbage in 1 tsp olive oil and @flavorgod seasoning, 4oz ground turkey (regular not the lean kind) seasoned with Everything Spicy @flavorgod, 1 cup spinach & cilantro. 
Bison Veggie Combo: 
4oz bison (cooked with turmeric, garlic powder, cumin & black pepper), 3oz sauerkraut, 1 cup yellow cauliflower, 1 cup sautéed cabbage in 1 tsp olive oil and @flavorgod seasoning.

Shrimp Veggie Combo: 
3-4oz wild caught shrimp cooked in 1 tsp olive oil + seasoning, 1/2 red bell pepper, & 1 cup cauliflower. 
Egg Salad Jar Layers bottom to top: 
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1 cup cherry tomatoes, 1 yellow bell pepper, 1/2 cup cucumber, 2 eggs, 1/4 cup chickpeas, 1/2 cup spinach + parsley. 
Tips: 
I pour salad jars onto a plate to eat it. 
Meals keep great up to 5 days in the fridge, except seafood I keep up to 3 days. —

All methods of dieting and reducing body fat work on the fact that if you eat less food than you are eating now, you’ll be in a calorie deficit. And then you’ll lose the fat.

What happens when people are ACTUALLY starving? For example, prisoners of war and poor people in 3rd world countries? Starving means their daily calories are 0. They’re not getting any food.

You turn into the typical American. 66% of our population is overweight or obese.

So anyways, do the experiment.

1. Download myfitnesspal. It’s the easiest way to track calories. For aggressive fat loss, multiply your bodyweight by 10. Example: a 180 pound person would eat 1800 calories. Do not adjust for activity. Just make sure you eat 1800 calories. A simple place to start for protein is 100 grams for women, and 150 grams for men. The remainder of your calories can be any combination of carbs and fats.
2. Track them honestly for 21 days. Everything that you eat or drink must be logged or you aren’t doing the experiment correctly. Yes, if you taste test, grab a nibble, nibble on some walnuts at work…those calories count.
3. Track your bodyweight in the mornings after you go to the bathroom. One of 3 things can happen: your weight can go down, go up, or stay the same.
4. NOW you can say calories do or don’t matter.

I've been asked what my post-partum plan is with eating and exercise. I've got a handful of workout programs lined up that I'm really excited about but as for the nutrition side --> PFC! 
In a nutshell, it means protein + fat + carbs at meals and snacks. This has been the eating style I've followed for the past 6 years and what I MOSTLY model in my online nutrition/fitness accountability groups (because donuts and Sonic have their place in a healthy lifestyle). I have found a lot of freedom with this method and haven't counted a calorie since. There's no one-size-fits-all diet so you won't see me promoting one plus I want to help YOU find an eating style that can be a LIFESTYLE versus a 2-week or 30-day thing you ditch once it's over (anyone done that over and over?? 🙋🙋) I'm always a message away, friends 📲

I made this quick and simple guide for people who ❤️ to eat Sushi. .
❓The thing with Sushi is that it’s often considered a good dining option for the calorie conscious. However, there can be pitfalls and with conveyor belt type restaurants it’s very easy to overeat.

🔢I’ve presented you with average values so you can do a quick estimate of how much of each type of sushi you can eat easily. By doing some quick sums in your head you can predetermine how much to eat and not have to worry about overshooting your calories.

‼️Bear in mind that calorie values are dependent on the number of ingredients, type of ingredients and quantity of ingredients used. The Maki (rolls) are a prime example. There are such a wide variety of sushi choices so use common sense when applying the average calorie numbers. .

Homemade Macro Friendly MEXICAN PIzza!

This is another Taco Bell inspired meal, that I used to eat all the time as a kid and haven't had one in years but today I was inspired to create a rendition of the Mexican pizza to save you and myself from giving in to Taco Bell!

Macros:
Fat: 11g
Carbs: 40g
Protein: 33g
Fiber:4.7g

Ingredients: 1 Mexican Pizza
68g Great Value Refried Fat Free Beans 
66g Cooked Ground beef 93/7
30g Taco Bell Taco sauce 
14g Fat free cheddar cheese
14g Fat Free mozzarella cheese
2 Soft taco shells
1 packet taco seasoning
33g Rotel Chipolte Diced tomatoes with green chilies 
Directions: 
First brown the ground beef in a pan as directed on the taco seasoning packet and set aside once done. Next preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the 2 soft taco shells flat onto a sheet pan and put in the oven for about 8-10 mins or until crisp and brown. Set those aside also. Open the can of refried beans and tomatoes.  Place a plate onto your scale and zero it out. Note: After Each ingredient zero out the scale. Place 1 tortilla shell on to the plate and began smearing the 68g of refried beans and fully cover the shell. Then begin topping the beans with the 66g ground beef on top of the beans, making sure for full coverage. Next, place the following tortilla on top. Start pouring the taco sauce until you hit about 30g. Add drained tomatoes on top (33g). Finally add 14g of both cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese. Garnish with a few green onions! Move the pizza to the same sheet pan and throw back into the oven for about 8-10 mins or until the cheese is fully melted. Zucchini and Cremini Mushroom bake with Marinara, Mozzarella, and Basil. I also baked up pasta (the above dish) for my family, but I’m sticking with just the vegetables tonight to keep it clean for Monday. I roasted garden zucchini and cremini mushrooms on a foil lined cookie sheet at 425 until browned in places, then layered the vegetables with mozzarella (1/2 cup for 6 points and 160 calories) and marinara (homemade with a little olive oil, garlic, crushed red pepper, San Marzano tomatoes), 1 pt just from the olive oil. I baked the vegetables and pasta in individual casserole dishes, so everyone has their own little 5 by 7, made to order. I love this lasagna-style treatment of vegetables. With all that melted mozzarella, I never miss the pasta. ❤️#weightwatchers #caloriecounting #intermittentfasting

I remember the FIRST time in the midst of dieting, eating a medium mint chip blizzard...WITHOUT bingeing. Without restricting during the day. Without feeling the need to exercise or get sick afterwards. I was SHOCKED but SO DANG PROUD. 🤗

Shocked because it wasn't THAT hard... but still hard?! (Lol confusing I know) I had to constantly convince myself.. this is ok. Just do it once. Wait until tomorrow to exercise or make any decisions whether this was "good or bad". Just see how you feel. JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE!!

This was 2 years before I let go of dieting forever. I had just opened my eyes to "flexible dieting". So here's the thing.. you got to know when enough is enough. You got to be 100% convinced that food will NO LONGER control your thoughts and or life. You gotta do scary shit. You gotta feel the fear, and do it anyways! 💕
