This year I made resolutions that I wanted to try and achieve career wise, especially the way I shoot. One of them was to not put the camera down when the pose is over. I've always been drawn to the in between moments in a wedding day, way more than the main stuff. This one Faseeh reaching out for Tania's dress to help her out, I just love how cinematic it is. Simple, yes but has something that makes me smile.
We see images all day long. With our faces constantly in front of our screens that they really, all seem to blend together.... Then, there are images that can evoke a sense of deep feelings in us. Images that remind us of something, that is a window into something much deeper. This image stopped me and brought me back into my own story, and made me smile deep inside. I remember a time at this same annual pow wow with my father and my step mother. I was admiring a pair of home made moccasins, the native elder who made them was a beautiful women, her eyes of wisdom shone bright... they were red, with sheeps's wool lining and white stitching on top. I didn't buy them for myself, though I wanted to. Four months after that, in November my dad died, unexpectedly. He had a Christmas present wrapped up for me that I received, after he'd died. It was the red moccasins. That pow wow was the second last time I saw my dad before he died, almost 9 years ago. I have brought those moccasins everywhere with me since. I'm wearing them now.
Thank you @robmurphynow for capturing this very moving image and window into not just my own story, but the layers of stories our elders have to share, their feathers of wisdom. We can learn a lot from them can't we? @ramapowwow #rama#ramapowow2017#canadianphotographer#livelifelight#elder#powow#native#canada#metis#photography#culturalphotography#culture#heritage#origins#roots#lifeisaatory#lifeadventure#stories#story#yoga#canadianculture
✈️ My girlfriends and I are heading to Montreal this October for a friend’s Bachelorette celebration! A couple of us are thinking of extending our trip by a day or two, but are stuck on what places to go or what sights to see. Any suggestions?
