THIRTY DAYS OF ALUMNI FILMS. 20/30. The Cider House Rules (1999). #DoP @oliverstapletonbsc (Graduate, 1979). In 1999 #NFTS alumni shot two of the five #Oscar nominated Best Pictures, The Green Mile and The Cider House Rules. #TheCiderHouseRules marked the first collaboration between Oliver Stapleton and #LasseHallstrom , together they worked to bring to the screen the classic #American novel ‘The Cider House Rules’ written by #JohnIrving who also wrote the screenplay. The film is sensitively directed and Stapleton’s Cinematography follows suit. Each shot is carefully framed and the #cinematography is never there to show-off or overwhelm. In this scene, Curly asks Homer why ‘Nobody ever wants him’ – it’s a moving scene beautifully framed as Homer (#TobeyMaguire ) has to explain to the young boy that the family who have come to adopt a child, didn’t want him. The Cider House Rules was nominated for several Oscars and won Best Supporting Actor for #MichaelCaine who praises Stapleton for his work, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

We now have all of our highest quality footage placed onto the timeline, we now place this into order of how it relates to the storyboard, we then went and found a song that would allow us to have the most creativity to our footage. We now start to create the opening sequence to the video and create a small taster for the client. Once they have confirmed that they are happy with the way we are going then we continue to stage 3.
