Goldie, Road Captain of the Night Rebels MC, loves women and women love him. He’s a simple man who only needs his Harley, whiskey, and women—in that order—in his life to make it hum. Being an officer of an outlaw motorcycle club, the women are more than willing to accommodate the blond, ripped, and tatted biker. His rule is simple: pleasure without commitment. It’s served him well until one night when she walked into the club’s tattoo shop wanting an ink job on her sexy bottom.
For reasons he doesn’t understand, he’s drawn to her.
He’s never felt such a pull before.
He wants to get to know her.
This is the fourth book in the Night Rebels MC Romance series. This is Goldie’s story. It is a standalone. This book contains violence, sexual assault (not graphic), strong language, and steamy/graphic sexual scenes. It describes the life and actions of an outlaw motorcycle club. If any of these issues offend you, please do not read the book. HEA. No cliffhangers! The book is intended for readers over the age of 18.

Book: Locking Up Our Own by James Forman
Aight so first I gotta give a s/o to @rachie_gspan being THE BEST and hooking me up with a copy of Locking Up Our Own by James Forman!! I was lucky enough to hear a TED talk from him this summer and was so moved by his lecture that I wanted to read his book as well! Locking Up Our Own's focal point centers on how the US mass incarceration system was developed and how it has a systematically disproportionate impact on POC. Going into this book, I truly had no idea how complicated the issue of mass incarceration was- or how it possibly connected with other social problems like drug use, public health, education, crime, and poverty. Using Washington DC as his sample, Forman takes an extremely background-heavy approach to describing, diagnosing, and proposing solutions to our prison problem. To my surprise, he dedicated about half the book to contextualizing how exactly the process of mass imprisonment came to be- and why it affects minorities in such an inequitable manner. Forman digs into the legal and legislative details on a local level, and goes as far back as 1955 in order to correctly identify the roots of this movement. At first, I had a gripe with this- surely he should be discussing nation wide legislation and larger statistics on racial profiling rather than getting caught up in the nitty gritty of policy changes specific to one city? However, Forman's details on local legislature came to underscore that our culture of mass incarceration has been constructed incrementally, and vastly on the state and local levels. Forman additionally ties in extensive research on how crime, poverty, education (or lack thereof), law enforcement, and other social conditions can weigh into the likelihood of jail time for certain individuals/communities. He takes the time to acknowledge what a multi faceted and dimensional system the crime/prison pathway is- and helps you to comprehend how monstrous of a problem it is for citizens and legislators alike. I found it truly incredible how Forman was able to comprehensively address how complex the prison system is in a work that is less than 250 pages.

"My life is in the Wolf's hands."
He is the Wolf. I am his Red. The game has begun and he wants me dead.
But who is the Wolf?
And why has he chosen me?
He whistles a tune that's haunting. He glares at me through eyes that are vacant. I feel his heart beating, yet I know he has no soul. He moves like the wind...I can't hear his footsteps. I want this to end. He's playing with my mind. He branded me with ink. He wants to destroy me.
"I, Reid, take thee, Morgan, to be my wife. To have and to hold, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, till death do us part..."
I have a reason to keep running.
There's no time to blink.
Don't look back. Don't make a sound.
I know he's behind me.

No. 033 • Shame (3/3)
From childhood to adulthood, I compensated for my shame-based identity by engaging in a variety of inconducive activities, mostly to deprive myself of any and all feelings. And, I still struggle with shame as I type this post.
First, I intensely detest my appearance when I'm anywhere in the United States (that's part of the reason I rarely go out these days when I'm stationed in America), although I appreciate my looks when I'm visiting a territory whose citizenry is predominantly composed of brown-skinned individuals. (It makes a GRAND difference from multifarious experiences.) Second, wherever I am in the world, I'm not feeling confident in my current body shape, particularly because after a decade of being actively fit, I let myself go two years ago due to a combo platter of depression, heartbreak, and the daily stress that comes with being treated like a subhuman in the South. Third, because of my father's prominence (yup, I still have daddy issues), I've struggled massively with being educated and economically poor. (At least I know how to budget quite well even when I'm earning a relatively low salary.) And last, I'm ashamed that things didn't work out with Hassan.
I really do hope to have a shame-free identity before I die - that is one of my two ultimate goals in life - and to be able to convert my shame into strength. But, dunno how I'm gonna get there. So, I'm paying a professional listener (aka my awesome therapist) to help me out with that. When I find the light (or the meaning of life), I'll lyk. Peace.
Portraiture, 2014. Lensed by Dionysius Burton.
📍 Dia 22: "It's gonna be legen... wait for...dary! Legendary!"
I received Melody's Key in exchange for a review a few weeks ago. Read on for a brief review.
The very first thing I noticed upon reading the summary is that it sounded very similar to one of those celebrity fan fictions I used to read on Wattpad (way before it was taken over by badly written, self indulging (MORE self indulging) bunch of 12-year-olds, literally & metaphorically.)
So I did expect things to get super clichéd, which, things did. But I decided to give it a chance. It turned out pretty good actually, very light read and if you're looking to get some butterflies in that stomach start raving, you should give this one a try!
This has to be one of my favourite book covers, the colours, the design, the font... everything is perfect 👌🏻😍
Sorry, it's only a smallish caption today! I hope you're all having a wonderful reading week 😊💕
QOTD: What's your favourite book cover?
🌨QOTD: do you prefer indoors or outdoors?
Heyyy my lovelies 😘
Although reading indoors is more preferable, I actually really enjoy going out on an adventure and breathing in fresh air 🍃
I don't know how this will turn out but I want to start incorporating some natury shots as well as the usual bookish photos :) Hopefully this will turn out well!
Talk to you later booksters!
🎉Happy Book Birthday to Ayobami Adebayo's STAY WITH ME 🎉
I was excited to receive an advance ebook of this powerful novel about a Nigerian family and the sacrifices and heartache they endure. Intrigued from the beginning, I couldn't put this one down as each layer unfolded. Here's the Goodreads synopsis:
Yejide and Akin have been married since they met and fell in love at university. Though many expected Akin to take several wives, he and Yejide have always agreed: polygamy is not for them. But four years into their marriage--after consulting fertility doctors and healers, trying strange teas and unlikely cures--Yejide is still not pregnant. She assumes she still has time--until her family arrives on her doorstep with a young woman they introduce as Akin's second wife. Furious, shocked, and livid with jealousy, Yejide knows the only way to save her marriage is to get pregnant, which, finally, she does, but at a cost far greater than she could have dared to imagine. An electrifying novel of enormous emotional power, Stay With Me asks how much we can sacrifice for the sake of family.
Pick this one up! It's on sale now!

♠Dalam usaha Shahrzad menemukan perasaannya. Kini dia menemukan sisi lain mengenai Khalid.

Call me obsessed, I don't care because this is my new favorite. It's useful andddd nerdy! The BEST combination. Thank you @yoshibags for sending me this!!
I also finally got to take some pictures in my new library space! It's so much easier not having to climb a ladder to get my books down 😂

Book Review 📚 Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series contains two separate trilogies. I LOOOVED the first trilogy, so of course I had to follow up with book 4, The Alloy of Law. •
This was actually my least favorite of the Mistborn books, but I'd still recommend it for Sanderson fans because the final book of the second trilogy was amazing. Link to the full review is in my bio. •
And to anyone considering reading this series - DO IT! It's so good! Sanderson is a genius. (Just to be clear, this is book FOUR. Mistborn starts with The Final Empire!) #emileereads#brandonsanderson#thealloyoflaw#mistborn

"I have been turned toward you like a compass the whole time." - from "Steinbeck: A Life in Letters"
Halfway through. So much love for this book.
Also, been posting more on my blog lately :) Feeling content.
Wandering through the house this morning, I walked into Scout's room and found her sitting on her bed, looking at her @rebelgirlsbook. This makes my soul happy!!! Because 1. I want my kids to grow up with a love of books and reading. 2. I want to raise daughters that are strong, know what they want and aren't afraid to go for it. I'm not raising a princess, I'm raising a strong-willed, feisty little rocket that would rather watch ninja turtles than frozen. And I love that! Keep being you kid, you're going to go places!
Margot would say she belongs to herself. Kitty would say she belongs to no one. And I guess I would say I belong to my sisters and my dad, but that won’t always be true. To belong to someone—I didn’t know it, but now that I think about, it seems like that’s all I’ve ever wanted. To really be somebody’s, and to have them be mine. - Jenny Han, To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Efflorescence (after Rhiannon McGavin)
There are wildflowers here,
vibrant blue and purple
they burgeon out of your pursed lips
when I tell you about last week's adventures,
and your face takes on disapproval like a ragged costume
but peals of laughter cannot help themselves.
They push through the seams
in indigo bursts of mirth.
I spot sunflowers in your eyes sometimes
when you look towards the light
as we sit in the afternoons
comfortable in this silence we have created for one another.
The gold reflects onto our skin,
some degree of precious metal holding our hearts together,
some visceral affinity that makes us vulnerable together,
and we hold flashlights with shaking wrists at dusk.
I have seen bougainvillea creep
through the fission of our fingers,
interlocked flesh playing host to hues of magenta.
I have watched it wind its way through the ridges of our knuckles,
it has braided itself in between valleys.
It sprouts from the grime in our fingernails
and turns scrawled ink into nourishment.
I could swear
I saw roses blooming out of our buckling knees
the day we leaped over thorny conversation
and faux waltzed away from puddles.
I have never been graceful like the other girls
and I don't know if it's the adrenaline
or if it's true what they say about pop music,
how it etches happiness onto your heels,
or perhaps it's just us
here in a living room,
bumping elbows on the sofa
but I have never felt more in love
with all of these fraying, carmine petals,
and I have never wanted for colour
when we are together. -
