I created GAUNTLET RUN as a vehicle for two things: 1) proving that I can deliver totally sweet action scenes in the same breath as my personal brand of meta-humor, and 2) spotlighting GLBT and minority characters that are frequently pushed aside in the action genre.
I had a dope cast and crew. In just two days, we put together one of the most ridiculously awesome movies I've gotten to work on. I owe a lot of that to Fight Family for coming in from out of town. I owe it to the Memphis folks that have continued to stand with me throughout the years. I owe it to the actors that have never really done anything like this before but wanted a shot; so they brought their A-game and made sure to make an impression. Movies like this don't work without the cast and crew trusting the stunt coordinator and director; if you're going to put your safety and your lives in my hands, then I'm going to make sure to deliver.
I also find it pretty amazing that we won Best Memphis Local last night - on National Bisexuality Awareness Day, for a movie where I play a character whose sexual orientation reflects my own. I've taken roles all across the spectrum, but Khan is actually the first character I've actually identified with on that level. Which is hilarious, because I've been doing this for a while and you'd figure at some point it would have happened. So personal victory, but I'd also like to think I'm helping the film community progress ever further in the fight for equal representation both on camera and behind the scenes.
My final thank you has to be to the fans - of the genre, of the Unreal Film Festival, of Unreal Radio, of Gauntlet Run, of my work in general, and of my marketing antics. If you enjoy my work, then it's all for you. I can hardly wait to show you what's next.
And of course...Welcome to the Gauntlet.
