Happy Monday 🍜 remember now we're open until 10:00 pm 🕙 📸
Kid you not when I say @hironori_craft_ramen is one of the best ramen places I've had! Favs: Tonkatsu broth ramen with extra garlic, vegetarian ramen, and lime edemame
Took a stop at the newest ramen shop in town Bangaichi Ramen in Silverlake. It's where Saito Sushi used to be (RIP). Well, this is yet another ramen-ya (ramen shop) that has skipped across the Pacific to open up an American location. The original, for the past 50 years, sits beneath Tokyo station in Japan. The style although, is from Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan. Asahikawa, the second largest city behind Sapporo in Hokkaido is known for its shoyu (soy sauce) based broths. The broth of Asahikawa Ramen (旭川ラーメン) is known for being quite oily, and there is often a thin layer of oil on top of the soup. Another characteristic of the local ramen is the generally thin, hard and wavy noodles which this place did perfectly. The range of toppings was quite typical and included green onions, pork, bamboo shoots and eggs. This ramen felt like Japan, more close to a Japanese ramen than most all spots in LA. They don't even do the ever so popular tonkotsu (Fukuoka pork bone, creamy style) broth here. Shoyu, shio and miso broths are your options, as well as a vegan and spicy options. Rua and I gave the Char-Siu Shoyu and the Shio Bangaichi Butter Ramen a try. Both hit the spot!! Simple but you could taste and see the authenticity. Hokkaido ramen is also know for putting butter and corn in as toppings, butter is something I think no shops I've seen have done yet in LA. When that butter hit the hot shio, damn. So good. Seriously, this is great ramen, and the funny thing is that I'm not so sure it'll do all that well here...it's so simple and non trendy it may get overlooked. Its name is even difficult to pronounce (as was Manichi Ramen in Little Tokyo that ended up changing to My Ramen Bar instead). Let's hope that since it's open late night on the weekends it can grow in popularity as a staple LA ramen-ya. One thing was the price, a bit steep but man, Rua and I are totally going back. She's been on all #claysramengame adventures and she's knows when it's a good place or not, better than I, it's instinctual!! So I am incorporating her into the ramen game now! Bangaichi gets 🍜🍜🍜🍜1/2 guys!!! Almost got the elusive 5 Bowl rating!
Vocabulary Check ✏️ Looks better than it tastes / Tastes better than it looks
Hello! I hope you had a nice weekend! Today's photo is my lunch from today, tonkotsu ramen! 🍜 It looks delicious but the soup was weak and really underwhelming... 💔
It looks better than it tastes.
It tastes better than it looks.
It looks better than it tastes.
It tastes better than it looks.
It looks better than it tastes「
It tastes better than it looks 「
結構 It tasted better than it looks! ☺️
