An american soldier going to Sicily. The landing in Sicily (code named Husky) was carried out by the Allies on the Sicilian coast on 10 July 1943 during the Second World War, with the aim of opening a front in continental Europe, invading and defeating Italy and, finally, concentrate their efforts against Nazi Germany at a later stage. After the fall of Pantelleria (Corkscrew operation), it was the first major operation of Allied troops on Italian soil during the war and marked the beginning of the Italian campaign.Disembarkation in Sicily was one of the largest amphibious operations of World War II, to which two large allied units took part: the 7th US Army led by General George Smith Patton and the 8th British Army under the command of General Bernard Law Montgomery, gathered in the 15th Armed Forces under the responsibility of British General Harold Alexander. The two armies landed in the southeastern part of Sicily with the task of advancing simultaneously within the island: the 7th Army of Patton would have to progress to Palermo and occupy the western part of the island while the 8th Army of Montgomery he would have been marching along the east-central part of Sicily to Messina, in theoretical conduct of a tenacle action that would have to imprison the Axis forces, clustered in the 6th Italian Army commanded by General Alfredo Guzzoni. From a strategic point of view, the campaign was a disappointing outcome for the Allies, who failed to prevent the retreat of German-German troops from General Hans-Valentin Hube (who first took over in Guzzoni in early August). #ww2#worldwar2#war#respectforallsoldiers#nazioccupation#sicily#axisforces#americansoldier#america#italy#worldwar2#sea#picoftheday#1941#1942#1943#1944#1945
This is one you will rarely hear. The Christian life is a life of discipline. We are in the army. I know you love to just relax but you’ve not been called to that life. All those breakthroughs you’re asking for every Sunday you go to church will not come by eating and sleeping. If you’ve not known that by now, you better wake up and start grooming yourself. It’s a war out here and a soldier must be quick, fast and vigilant. Not lazy, laid back, slumbering and indolent.
I pity people who think life isn’t serious lol. They say “Life isn’t that serious”. I laugh. By the time your eye will open ehn, it’s after five. They eat, drink, watch, listen to and partake in anything that’s thrown at them. No self control whatsoever. They are oblivious of spiritual warfare because they’ve been spiritually knocked out. They think they’re enjoying in the physical and everything is going their way. I pity them. They’re just walking in line with the rest of the captives, hands on their heads. Slaves. Surrendered to the camp of enemy. The camp of the wicked. The camp of wickedness personified (As my pastor said today 😂) Anyway, let me not stray out of topic.
The Bible tells us to be sober and vigilant. And from recent experience, I’ve learned that this greatly involves food not just alcohol. All those heavy meals you consume at night gotta go, so you can have energy to wake up and go to war when you’re prompted. So that your spiritual ducts and valves can be clear enough to hear God’s word, especially at night. You’ve gotta be light and quick on your feet. You say you have hind’s feet yet you can’t even run to save your life. You return home at night and gorge on some fufu and akpu, or three plates of rice with humongous pieces of meat. How do you expect to have the energy to pray? By the way, do you know gluttony is a Spirit? That deep love for food? Do you know that? Wake up and train yourself soldier. Get fit!! The battle is here and it never ends. Ciao...And I don’t mean eat.
Early morning sunshine at the top of the hill, where King Nadir Shah's tomb is located, 1929-33. I took this picture on my journey to Kabul in 2011. Just minutes before the enormous air pollution by the daily traffic blocked my view of the city completely.
Interesting historical fact:
The British Empire supported in 1929 an illiterate bandit and his criminal gang, Habibullah Kalakani, with strong ties to Islamic fundamentalists, overthrow the new progressive, very modern and liberal King Amanullah, who brought independence from the Brits after winning the third Anglo-Afghan war in 1919.
This infamous bandit king was then overthrown and publicly executed, again with the help of the same British, after 9 months his gang been looting in Kabul city and to put another king of their own favor in power: Nadir Shah(his tomb on the photo). This king was then assassinated 4 years later by a student in 1933.

#(Introduction of my new serie: The Mongols invasion)#
The Mongol invasion of Europe in the eleventh century refers to the military effort of an Asian power, the Mongol Empire, to invade and conquer parts of Europe through its army.
It provokes the destruction of the Slavic principalities and the great cities, like Kiev and Vladimir. The Mongol invasions also affected central Europe, leading to a conflict with the Kingdom of Hungary (battle of Mohi, 1241) and causing the fragmentation of Poland (Battle of Legnica, 1241).
The operations are led by General Subotai and commanded by Batu and Khadan, the two grandsons of Genghis Khan. As a result of the invasions, many of the conquered territories are integrated into the Golden Horde.
Historians consider that the Mongol invasions of which the invasions in Europe are a minor part are among the most deadly conflicts in human history up to this period. ➡Sponsor: @indian_medieval_armour
Getting some daily wisdom in mixed with prayers for so many different people. A young friend's nephew who was born early but is fighting hard to overcome all the things. My friends and their companies, cash flow side and family side. All the influences on my kids (ugh....such a broad spectrum) Every kid I teach scripture to. (past, present, future-- I love you guys!) And there's always prayers for my husband and our marriage...16 years is great and all...but there's a lot more to come and so it's a daily 'Suck it, devil' when it comes to attacks or temptations. Scene from Prince Caspian and quote from the Last Battle.
This scene always touch my heart and make me feel so sad, like the Narnians that died there were real people, with their life, their family and their dreams; and they remind me of all those who everyday die because of wars that are too often forgotten.
I think this quote can perfectly match with the situation, because these Narnians fought their last battle with great courage and bought themselves a noble death, hoping that one day peace would be restored in their beloved country.
You might be wondering, are @warphotography posting images from games and movies now? Well, this is really Kiev, Ukraine. One of Europe's historical gems. -
The picture was taken in February 2014 during what is now being called the Euromaidan Revolution, when a series of violent events involving protesters, riot police, and unknown shooters in the capital, Kiev, culminated in the ousting of the democratically elected Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych.
After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Ukraine endured years of corruption, mismanagement, lack of economic growth, currency devaluation and problems to secure funding from public markets. Successive Ukrainian governments in the 2000s sought a closer relationship with the European Union (EU). One of the measures meant to achieve this was an association agreement with the EU, which would have provided Ukraine with funds in return for liberalising reforms. President Yanukovych announced his intention to sign the agreement, but ultimately refused to do so at the last minute. This sparked a wave of protests called the "Euromaidan" movement, with protests originally erupting in November 2013. During these protests Yanukovych signed a treaty and multibillion-dollar loan with Russia, and the Ukrainian security forces cracked down on the protesters, further inflaming the situation and resulting in a series of violent clashes in the streets of Kiev. As tensions rose, Yanukovych fled to Russia and did not return.
The events were followed by a series of changes in Ukraine's sociopolitical system, including the formation of a new interim government, the restoration of the previous constitution, and a call to hold impromptu presidential elections within months. Many in the government-controlled east regard the change in power as an "illegal armed coup". Medical volunteer estimates indicate about 780 missing and dead as a result of the conflict. -
As we've said previously, neither of us know too much about the situation in the Ukraine, and most of the above is wiki, but the images you can find online are so astonishing that we will simply have to give this more coverage in the future.
