Just before six am this is the last thing I wanna do... but several days a week like this morning I drag myself outta bed & downward dog 🐶
I do it because there is a GUARANTEE that I’ll have more energy for my entire day because of my practice rather than the 20 mins more sleep. Be it 〰 a few stretches 〰 sun salutations 〰 breathing 〰 a shorter practice it COUNTS and it makes a huge difference for your energy and for your internal body long term. .

I chose to do a variation against the wall, since I needed a little extra push after a weekend spent doing 14 hours of aerial yoga 🙄
Not only is Kurmasana a great hip opener, stretches your back and legs, but it stimulates your organs in your abdomen helping with digestion, and it increases blood flow to your head, which aids in mental clarity, memory, and helping with insomnia.
This pose allows us to experience the 5th limb of yoga- #pratyahara which is a sense withdrawal, quietening our mind from the distractions of the outside world, withdrawing the limbs of our perception into our 'tortoise shell'
This is quite a challenging pose, not only for the stretch but to quiet your mind and allow your legs to pin down your arms. Make sure you are prepared mentally and physically, incorporating it into your practice after centering in, and preparing with a few preliminary poses such as #malasana#baddhakonasana and #upavisthakonasana ✨

When I first got certified as a yoga teacher I was told ‘YOU must practice yoga for 90 minutes everyday’ 😧
So... I knew that wasn’t gonna happen for me and it kinda made me feel unproductive as a teacher and a student in this life long practice of #Yoga
I was lucky to have later met a great mentor who taught me that any time on the mat or anywhere practicing a #yogapose#yogastretch#breathe or just being present and aware of #nature 🌴 or your own actions and responses = YOGA (which means to unite). I realized I was practicing with quality rather than quantity. And this is now an integral part of my teachings to my students. A quality practice out weighs a quantity one any day 💫

(Bhujangasana or cobra pose) Lie on your belly. Stretch your legs back, tops of the feet on the floor. Spread your hands on the floor under your shoulders. Move the elbows back to your ribs. Press the tops of the feet and thighs and the pubis firmly into the floor. On an inhalation, begin to straighten the arms to lift the chest off the floor, going only to the height at which you can maintain a connection through your pubis to your legs. Press the tailbone toward the pubis and lift the pubis toward the navel. Firm but don't harden the buttocks. Firm the shoulder blades against the back, rotate your shoulders back and lower them toward hips, puffing the side ribs forward. Lift through the top of the sternum but avoid pushing the front ribs forward, which only hardens the lower back. Distribute the backbend evenly throughout the entire spine. Was really feeling frustrated and being super hard on myself for not being able to nail side crow today, and had to stop and remind myself that is not what yoga is about at all. Took a breath and realized how lucky I am to be able to use my wrist at all, and should be celebrating the fact I can do a handstand again (albeit not so confidently!) after my surgeries. Yoga is a personal journey and should make you respect and love your body. Two words for you - H I P • O P E N E R S 🤸🏻♀️ Now, let me tell you something. Every time I practice yoga and there are a lot of hip openers, I start to get emotional. Like actually cry sometimes emotional. Years ago when it first started happening I just thought I was crazy but the hips are said to be where we store emotion. Often the kind we keep hidden down like anger, anxiety, sadness and frustration. It can be quite confronting when it happens and releasing emotion can make you feel uncomfortable. BUT hip openers are sooo good for you - physically, mentally and energetically and our hips don't lie (cheers Shakira), so if you're feeling emotional during hip openers then chances are you may have something going on in your life at a deeper level so get that emotion out and then ask yourself what could be lingering in your hips. Its been one of those weeks for me with a few big life changes and as the universe always tends to make sure im facing my shit, literally every yoga class ive done has had so much hip opening and ive felt emotional every time. But its allowed me to understand more why im feeling the way im feeling and to just sit with it for a while and allow it to pass naturally. My affirmation at the moment: I love my mind, I love my body, I love my soul and I am exactly where I am meant to be ✨ Namaste 🙏🏼

🌿This active centering meditation is based on Sufi techniques, further developed and expanded by Osho. Using the breath and a series of coordinated body movements followed by whirling, your energy becomes centered in the hara, the “life energy” center below the navel. From there you can watch the mind and experience awareness and wholeness – the body moving in all directions, the center unmoving.
